01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Situated just after crossing Azumabashi bridge, SFUMATO catches the eye with warm, flowing curved wooden walls and tiered seating. Open from 8:00 until late into the evening every day except Wednesday, it suits visits across the day, whether stepping in for a morning brew or lingering over a nightcap coffee.

For drip coffee, the café pours single origins from Ethiopia, Colombia, Kenya, and Indonesia alongside the house Sfumato Blend. The signature blend delivers sweet, berry-like aroma and a clean, translucent mouthfeel, while Colombia is a reliable choice for lingering fruity sweetness. In addition to a classic caffè latte, the espresso bar offers creative variations such as a crisp espresso tonic and an aromatic ginger pepper latte.

The baked treats in the showcase are another great reason to stop by. The chocolate brownie balances a firm bite with a smooth, melting center that complements the fruit-forward notes and sweetness in the coffee. Other options include seasonal shortcake loaded with juicy fruit, Basque cheesecake, lemon polenta cake with lively acidity, and gluten-free tiramisu, making it easy to choose based on the day's mood.

For a tea break, you can opt for an Uji matcha latte or a tart, vibrant Uji matcha berry soda. Light fare is on hand as well when hunger strikes, featuring the Egg X Egg sandwich made with eggs from Komine in Saga Prefecture, alongside a ham and basil sandwich. With its varied roster of drinks and sweets, SFUMATO makes an ideal resting stop during a walk through the area.
